Vision
Excellence Through Leadership
The story of Hunters Creek begins with Tabernacle. Many teachers and much of the equipment and supplies transferred from Tabernacle to HCMS when Tabernacle closed and HCMS opened. HCMS was started when 30 acres of land was donated by Mr. Garland Tuton and clearing began in March 1989. In 1990 Hunters Creek Middle opened (the gym wing first) under Superintendent Everett L. Waters. Mr. Rudolph Whaley, who was the principal of Tabernacle became the first principal of HCMS.
HCMS is a 6-8 grade school serving the White Oak District. Our feeder schools are Morton Elementary, Silverdale Elementary, Hunters Creek Elementary and a small population from Carolina Forest, Sand Ridge, and Clyde Erwin. We generally serve 700+ students.
HCMS supports a diverse learning environment which includes athletics and extra curricular activities to round out learning opportunities. Our school has had successful Academic Derby and Battle of the Books teams. In the past, our Academic Derby team has had the best consecutive wins record in the county. Our Odyssey of the Mind teams have been quite successful making it to the State Competition. We are the first school from Onslow to have a team make it to the state Battle of the Books Competition.
